Opt out and protect your private information!

Keeping your private information secure is very important in our career field where our enemies are internet savvy and willing to target individuals.

Currently there are over 265 online information brokers (also known as data brokers or data vendors) who gather personal information from various social, commercial and public sources. As of yet, there is no single mechanism for suppressing your information from all the sites at once. Although not required by law to do so, many offer a method to opt-out. Provided is a web site which list the growing list of data brokers, their terms of service, privacy policies and opt-out information. Unfortunately, many people find it difficult to effectively remove their information from these lists.

A few of the issues that may arise when attempting to remove personal information:
– Not all information brokers offer a method of opting out.
– Information brokers may charge a fee to suppress information from their databases.
– Information that has been removed from one database may be re-posted online at a later date when the company downloads a new batch of information.
